HNES Learning Cottage Safety 2025-2026

Arrival: First Week OF SCHOOL

Bus Riders

• Bus riders will enter door 2.
• Students will go to the breakfast line or walk immediately into the auxiliary gym where they will meet teachers.
• If getting breakfast, students will go into the auxiliary gym after getting their grab-and-go breakfast from the kitchen.

Car Riders & Daycare Van Riders

• Car riders and daycare van riders will enter door 2 and go to the breakfast line or auxiliary gym to meet teachers.
• If getting breakfast, students will go into the auxiliary gym after getting their grab-and-go breakfast from the kitchen.

Walkers

• Students will be directed by outdoor walker-duty staff to enter door 11 and go to the auxiliary gym to meet teachers.
• A teacher will be outdoors with a sign, directing walkers into the auxiliary gym through door 11. Students may proceed to the breakfast line and return to the auxiliary gym should they wish to get a grab-and-go school breakfast.

Tardy Students

• Students arriving after 9:20 a.m. will follow our school’s procedure for tardiness; Parents and students must come to the front office for a late check-in and an adult staff member will escort the student to the learning cottage.
• Teachers will teach learning cottage students arrival procedures during the first week of school to ensure their comfort with routines. For students joining our school throughout the school year, the classroom teacher will instruct students on the routines.

Arrival: 2nd Week of School to the End of School Year

Teachers will be awaiting students' arrival at their learning cottage doors from 9:10 – 9:20.

All arrival duty staff, inside and outside of the building, will wear a fluorescent orange safety vest for easy visibility for our students and always remain ready to assist students, every day.

Bus Riders

• Bus riders will enter door 2. Students will go to the breakfast line or walk into the auxiliary gym where they will meet our Learning Cottage Teacher Assistant and another teacher from the arrival staff.
• Staff will walk students outdoors to walk to learning cottages via the paved path.
• If students are getting a grab-and-go breakfast, they will be able to proceed to the cafeteria exterior door (door 7) after purchasing breakfast, where they will be met by a staff member to proceed to the learning cottages.
• Staff will be positioned outdoors to monitor the safety of students proceeding to learning cottages, all school year.

Car Riders & daycare Van Riders

• Car riders and daycare van riders will enter door 2 and go to the breakfast line or walk into the auxiliary gym where they will meet our Learning Cottage Teacher Assistant and another teacher from the arrival staff. T

• Students will walk directly to their learning cottage unless they are getting breakfast. If students are getting breakfast, they will enter door 11 which is located at the back of the auxiliary gym.
• After getting breakfast, they will be able to proceed to the cafeteria exterior door (door 7) after purchasing breakfast, where they will be met by a staff member to proceed to the learning cottages.
• Staff will be positioned outdoors to monitor the safety of students proceeding to learning cottages, all school year.

DISMISSAL

Daycare Van Riders

• The Learning Cottage Teacher Assistant will pick students up at the door of their learning cottage and will escort the daycare van riders to their designated dismissal location inside the building. (art room)
• The Teacher Assistant will ensure the daycare van rider staff are present to receive them, before moving on to their next duty. Upon arrival of their daycare van, students will be escorted by staff to the daycare van.

Car Riders

• The classroom teacher will escort the car riders to their designated dismissal location (cafeteria) inside the building prior to proceeding to the school buses.
• Students will wait until their car rider number is called and will be escorted outdoors to their parent/guardian’s vehicle.

AlphaBEST Students

• A teacher will escort SACC students into the building and will drop them off in the AlphaBEST room.

Bus Riders

• Teachers will escort bus riders to the school buses to ensure they board their assigned bus.
• The teacher will organize their dismissal lines by bus number to ensure a safe and orderly bus dismissal.
