A lot has happened this month, but I'm excited to share just how well our students have been performing!
Earlier this month, 1st grade got the chance to share their own fairy tale stories with Mrs. Bevans! They each had a chance to read aloud and demonstrate just how much improvement they've made in the areas of speaking, writing, reading, and listening. These students have already taken home their stories and were very eager to share these with you, their parents.
ACCESS testing is underway: Kindergarten tests have all been completed. 1st and 2nd grade will be taking their tests starting on the beginning of February. If you have any questions about the ACCESS test, feel free to contact me or send me an email.

Hello Everyone! It's been a very quick October and first quarter! This week, second grade is preparing to get ready for their writing celebrations happening this Wednesday (and Thursday in Rivera's class)!
Kindergarten is almost done with practicing their ABC's and are going to begin using these letters to build words. We will begin focusing on the beginning and ending sounds of given words.
First grade will soon be starting their Fairy Tales unit. Using what we have learned, we will find out what the main idea in a story is, what are the details that help us realize this main idea, as well as discover what makes a story a Fairy Tale.
Happy first week of November, everyone!

This week in ESOL, our kindergarten students are practicing saying the sounds to the letters A,B, and C! They are also continuing to listen to stories read by me and drawing their favorite parts on paper while telling their friends what that part is.
First graders are moving onto expanding their sentences while writing about "small moments" in their lives. They will continue to make connections through text-self/world relations and write about them in their ESOL journals.
Second graders are now beginning to work with synonyms this week and are using their prior learning to help brainstorm other words that match with given vocabulary. We are also continuing to work on story elements with fictional text!

Hello, everyone! I am excited to meet up with you at our back to school night tonight at 6:30-7:30pm.
Our kindergarten students have been working very hard by singing our abc's every day as well as practicing reading and writing our own names. Some of us can even spell our name backwards now! This week, we are beginning to listen to stories and tell our friends what our favorite parts are. We even get to draw pictures so we can tell our friends about this part of the story.
First grade is working to identify story elements such as character, setting, problem and solution. We will begin working with making connections with a story and write about how it relates to our own world around us.
Second grade will also be working with identifying story elements while improving our writing by expanding them and adding in more details.
